Draft report released into National Water Reform inquiry

September 21, 2017

The Turnbull Government’s inquiry into Australia’s water resources has reached a new milestone.

The Productivity Commission has released a draft report into its inquiry of the reform of Australia’s water resources sector.

The Government first announced the inquiry in December 2016 and appointed Professor Jane Doolan as part-time Commissioner (Environment) and John Madden as full-time Associate Commissioner (Water) to the Productivity Commission.

The Inquiry will also fulfil the statutory requirement for the first of the Productivity Commission’s triennial assessments of progress towards achieving the objectives and outcomes of the National Water Initiative required by the Water Act 2007.

The Commission is now seeking further information and feedback on the draft report and submissions are due by Thursday 19 October 2017.

The Productivity Commission is due to report to Government by 31 December 2017.
