Leading Australian water industry companies have been recognised for excellence in technology and expertise at the Water Industry Alliance’s 2019 Smart Water Awards. In its 16th year, the Awards recognise and celebrate Alliance members for their leading-edge expertise and innovation.
The Water Group from the South Australian Department for Environment and Water was awarded the Alliancing Award at the Ceremony on Friday June 7 for their collaborative approach towards delivering new international water engagement, trade and investment outcomes for the South Australian water sector.
Over the last four years, the Department for Environment and Water has actively played a coordination and support role to facilitate new international connections, and trade and investment opportunities for the South Australian water sector.
The work of the Department for Environment and Water, in collaboration with the whole of the water sector, is now starting to deliver tangible benefits to the South Australian water industry.
Department for Environment and Water - Manager, International Business Steve Morton, said it was nice to have their work recognised in this way, but the award was about much more than their organisation.
“It’s about the value of collaboration and working with others to deliver outcomes,”said Steve. “Collaboration allows you to cut through competition in the market, and the major outcome is to see business develop.”
The Judges commented that the Department's ability to bring together different levels of government and industry, to create opportunities to leverage South Australia's water expertise and identify pathways for the sector to employ their knowledge, skills and products in international markets, addresses the core fundamentals of this award category.
As a result, industry has entered new market arrangements, and the expertise in South Australia has been given a platform at a national and international scale.
