RPC's pipeline shipment arrives in Townsville

October 26, 2018

The first load of 6,500 metres of Flowtite® GRP pipes has arrived at its destination in Townsville for the commencement of Stage 1 of the construction of the Haughton Pipeline Duplication Project. The shipment of pipes began its journey in early October from RPC Pipe Systems in Lonsdale, where it is manufactured, to Townsville in Queensland. This delivery also flags the commencement of fabrication of the pipe fittings in RPC's newly established plant in Townsville, creating 20 new local jobs.

Two local Townsville firms have been selected to install the first sections of the new pipeline, creating up to 100 local jobs, and installation will begin within the next few weeks.
Construction of the water pipeline is the Townsville City Council’s top infrastructure priority and will be completed by the end of 2019. “It is a crucial plank of Council’s 3-point water security solution and it is a huge job creator for Townsville,” said Townsville Mayor, Jenny Hill.

Ensuring long-term water security for the community of Townsville, the competitive tender process selected RPC’s FLOWTITE® GRP pipe for its superior technology and long asset life. “This is critical infrastructure for North Queensland and it will provide water security and confidence for the Townsville region for decades to come,” Member for Townsville, Scott Stewart, said.

Since 2007, RPC Pipe Systems has successfully produced more than 1,000km of FLOWTITE® piping for major projects throughout Australia and New Zealand.
