An alliance of businesses in the business of water

WIA & AWA World Water Day Breakfast

Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide

March 22, 2019

The Water Industry Alliance and the Australian Water Association SA Branch will be partnering again in 2019 to deliver an event for our members and the broader water industry.

In 2018 we delivered the highly successful Water Outlook Breakfast just prior to the SA state election with presentations from both the Minister and Shadow Minister for Water.

This year, we will be celebrating World Water Day on Friday 22nd March 2019 with an industry breakfast.

Each year UN Water sets a theme for World Water Day and this year’s theme is ‘Water for All – Whoever you are, wherever you are, water is your human right’. Sustainable Development Goal 6 is crystal clear: water for all by 2030.By definition, this means leaving no one behind. But today, billions of people are still living without safe water – their households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories struggling to survive and thrive. Marginalised groups – women, children, refugees, indigenous peoples, disabled people and many others – are often overlooked, and sometimes face discrimination, as they try to access and manage the safe water they need.

This World Water Day, 22nd March, is about tackling the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind.

We will be joined by two guest presenters who will share the experiences of marginalised groups in Australia.

Ciara Sterling, Head of Community Inclusion at Yarra Valley Water and AWA’s 2018 Australian Water Professional of the Year.
With over 15 years’ experience in the water industry, Ciara is an industry leader in supporting customers experiencing vulnerability, hardship and family violence. She is the driving force behind Yarra Valley Water’s extremely successful WaterCare initiative and Head of the Thriving Communities Partnership, a cross-sectoral collaboration of organisations tackling the root causes of hardship and inequality.

Ngarrindjeri Regional Authority
The Ngarrindjeri Regional Authority (NRA) is the peak regional organisation representing the communities and organisations of the Ngarrindjeri nation. We will be joined by a representative of the Authority who will speak about the cultural use of water in the Coorong area of SA.
