About the Water Industry Alliance

Formed in 1998, the Water Industry Alliance is a respected industry cluster of water-related organisations focused on growing its members business and the industry.

We work to connect our members with the world and the world with our members and stimulate markets by promoting awareness of policy, management and technology solutions.

Our members include international water companies, national firms and well-established local companies.

The combination of R&D, consultancy, engineering, technology, manufacturing, education, operations and commercial know-how provides the members of the Water Industry Alliance a unique ability to offer proven, efficient and cost effective solutions, processes and equipment required by global markets.

Our experienced research and development sector involves universities, international water companies and Government agencies, all with direct links to the Water Industry Alliance.

We conduct national and international events and tours showcasing these Australian solutions and how we link research to industry product development.

Collectively, our members have grown annual exports of South Australian water technology products and water management services from $25m to $511m with accumulated exports exceeding $2.9bn.

Board of Directors

TIM WATERHOUSE (Chair)
Sentek

Tim has served on the Water Industry Alliance Board for a number of years and in 2010 was elected as Chair.

Tim is former MD and now a Director of Sentek Pty Ltd, which for 21 years has designed, manufactured and internationally marketed “best in class” soil moisture and salinity sensors and display software. He was a Director of the CRC Irrigation Futures for all of its seven year life. He is also a Director of Australian Water Investments. And prior to that worked in senior positions within Telstra and the Government.

He maintains a passion for growing SA industry, especially through industry led planning and collaboration. Tim’s particular interests are in the irrigation, water and IT sectors with a focus on strategically focussed small business development. He mentors a number of SME's in the water and IT fields.

JUDITH BRADSEN (Deputy Chair)
Minter Ellison

Judith was elected to the Water Industry Alliance Board (and as Deputy Chair) in 2010.

Judith is a Partner at Minter Ellison Lawyers, leading the Environment, Planning and Sustainability practice. She and Minter Ellison have been strong supporters of the Alliance since its inception. She now brings to the Board insights into the legal and policy issues that arise for the Alliance and is generally valued for her thought leadership in the development of sustainable water projects.

Judith is also a member of the Aquaculture Tenure Allocation Board, the Law Society's Planning Environmental and Local Government Committee and the SA Branch of the Australian Land and Groundwater Association.

ROBERT DEBELLE
SKC

Robert Debelle has been a Director of the Alliance for two terms and remains committed to the need for SA firms to lead in the design and construction of major water infrastructure projects in this state. A former GM of a water tank construction company, he has returned to consulting in general economics with a special eye on management strategy and leadership in the new economy. His particular interest is in the state of affairs and challenges brought on by new demands regarding access to capital, the volatility of brands in the competitive post-GFC market, the impact of new technologies and new media, and the increasing global demands for businesses to operate within clean technology and sustainable guidelines. His other interests include assisting in the pioneering of TEDx Adelaide and pro bono work for the International Space University at University of SA. Robert os a member of the SACE board and President of Surfing SA.

KEITH DOWNARD
Tonkin Consulting

Keith Downard is a Senior Project Engineer with Tonkin Consulting and has over 30 years’ involvement in the water and stormwater industry. Keith is well known within the water industry through his previous role as Technical Manager with the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges NRM Board.

Tonkin Consulting has been an active member of the Water Industry Alliance since its formation. Mr Kim Read was its inaugural chairman and Dr Phil Crawley has been an active Board member for a number of years. Keith’s nomination for this position reflects Tonkin Consulting’s ongoing desire for active involvement in the alliance.

ANDREW FERGUSON
Trility

Andrew Ferguson is the Business Development and Bid Manager for TRILITY, an Adelaide based company.

Andrew is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Chartered Professional Engineer with a background in project management, business development, logistics and engineering across water, defence and other industrial sectors in Australia and South Australia. Before his time at Trility he had spent 15 years in the South Australian Defence industry sector in engineering, project management, logistics and business development.

His water industry interests and responsibilities include desalination, recycling and industrial trade waste water treatment across the municipal, industrial and resource industry water and waste water markets. He looks forward to continuing as a Water Industry Alliance board member working with new and ongoing Water Industry Alliance members.

TREVOR LAMBERT
McConnell Dowell

Trevor is National New Business Manager for McConnell Dowell, based in their Adelaide office.

A foundation member of the Water Industry Alliance when it was formed in 1998, Trevor has over 35 years of infrastructure delivery experience, including significant water projects such as the Aldinga Wastewater Treatment Plant in SA and the Coombabah Water Futures Alliance in Queensland.

A qualified civil engineer with postgraduate qualifications in environmental management and business, Trevor is a former member of the Minister’s Leaders Group for the Federal Government Environment Industry Action Agenda, Co-Chair SA Business Vision 2010 Environmental Industry Cluster and a Councillor of the Environmental Management Industries Association of Australia.

CHRIS STATHY
Philmac

Mr Chris Stathy is Managing Director of South Australian-based company Philmac Pty Ltd, one of the world’s leading valve and compression fitting manufacturers.

Since joining Philmac in 1997, the main focus of Mr Stathy’s role has been on the strategic development of the company’s business both in Australia and overseas.

He is a long standing Board member and former Chairman of the Water Industry Alliance in South Australia, and has played a strong role in building the State’s water industry export activity globally.

Mr Stathy has broad experience in all major business disciplines and previously worked in senior management roles in the electronics and automotive industries.

MICHAEL LEVENE
APC Integration

Michael LeVene is a Business Development Executive for APC Integration, a Systems Integrator based in Adelaide - one of the companies key markets is servicing the Water Industry.

APC Integration is a Manufacturer of Electrical and Control Switchboards, as well as being at the leading edge of Energy and Carbon monitoring /reduction.

Michael has a strong interest in technology and business; his hobbies include international finance, world politics as well as commodity trading. Michael has an electronic engineering, manufacturing and finance background, giving him a unique understanding of not just technical issues, but the financial challenges, for both small and large businesses, with the experience of having worked in both.

Michael brings to the Board a fresh view and energy to match, further enhancing the benefits for members.

DOUG GEE
SA Water

Doug Gee is the General Manager Economic Development – SA Water, responsible for overseeing and guiding the export and industry development component of SA Water initiatives. This role incorporates the United Water outsourcing contracts, SA Water’s support for the Water Industry Alliance, and the Water Industry Development Program.

Prior to joining SA Water, Doug spent over twenty years working in the industry, both in Australia and internationally. His experience includes twelve years with the BOC Group, a major global organisation, in senior sales and marketing, R&D and market development roles, culminating in managing the organisations’ worldwide water treatment business.

Doug has been a director of the Water Industry Alliance since its inception, and played a key role in its establishment and SA Water’s involvement and funding since.

TANJA STEFANOVIC
Australian Water Association

Tanja Stefanovic is a Senior Process Engineer with Fyfe Earth Partners, a South Australian based engineering consultancy working in the Oil and Gas sector amongst other areas. With formal qualifications in Engineering and Economics Tanja has 25 years experience in Engineering and Business Development related activities of which more than 15 are in the water sector. Prior to joining Fyfe, Tanja’s career included management and business development roles with Tonkin Consulting, Adelaide Control Engineering, SA Water, Orica Watercare and ICI.

An active member of the Australian Water Association, Tanja is a Past Vice President and Chair of the South Australian Branch of the AWA and has also served on the AWA Strategic Advisory Council for a period of 4 years.

Tanja has extensive experience in water projects from feasibility studies, investigating options through to concept and detailed design and implementation. Operational experience in the chemical industry rounds off her skills and experience.
